Toma Dimitriu Quartet, made up of musicians from Italy, Spain, the United States and Romania, will support Saturday, May 12, from 4 p.m., the first jazz concert in The “Sound of Music” Season, 10th edition, event organized by the Peleș National Museum and the Union of Interpretive Creation of Musicians from Romania, in the music hall of Peleș Castle.

Lineup has as its leader the young pianist and composer Toma Dimitriu, one of the most active musicians of the new generation of Romanian artists.

The Romanian pianist, the Spanish saxophonist Daniel Torres, the Italian double bassist Andrea Caruso and the American drummer Owen Hart Jr. they met at the Prince Claus Conservatory in Groningen, the Netherlands. With Daniel Torres, the Romanian pianist began performing in 2014, and in 2016 they were the youngest artists invited to perform at the Jazz in Church Festival in Bucharest. Together with bassist Andrea Caruso, Dimitriu performed in the concert hall of the Groningen Conservatory, and he met Owen Hart Jr. when the latter was a drum professor at the jazz department of the same university. They will perform at Peleș Castle under the title "Soulful Encounter”.

Born in Bucharest (1993), Toma Dimitriu He studied classical piano in elementary school, and from the age of 14 he alternated between studying classical music and studying jazz. He studied with musicians such as Marius Pop, Mircea Tiberian, Ion Baciu Jr., Gene Jackson, David Berkman, Joris Teepe, Matt Wilson. In 2017 he graduated from the Prince Claus Conservatoire in Groningen, the Netherlands, the jazz department. He collaborates with artists from Romania, the Netherlands, Spain, Italy, Germany, the United States, Colombia, Serbia and Austria, in projects such as The Pale Dot with Mircea Tiberian, Free Style Trio, Latin Duo, Transylvanian Jazz with Nicolas Simion Group, Spanish Tenors Quintet. He performs in clubs in New York, France, Germany, the Netherlands and Romania.

Saxophonist born in Malaga, Spain, Daniel Torres Salazar He has been studying classical saxophone since the age of 11. He continues his musical education at the jazz department of the Prince Claus Conservatoire in Groningen, the Netherlands, and in 2016 he obtained the master's degree in the jazz department of the Amsterdam Conservatory. Among the teachers he has worked with are Michael Moore, Miguel Martinez, Don Braden, Kenny Washington, Ralph Peterson. He plays in various clubs in Amsterdam, Toronto, Romania, the Netherlands, Spain. After performing with Toma Dimitriu at the Jazz in Church festival, Daniel Torres settled for a while in Bucharest, where he worked in the Radio Big Band, the Bucharest Jazz Orchestra and collaborated with numerous musicians from the Romanian jazz scene.

Originally from Italy, Andrea Caruso He began his musical education by studying the clarinet. After discovering the double bass, the musician dedicated most of his time to this instrument. He studied classical double bass at the Foggia Conservatory where he had Massimiliano Mauthe von Degerfeld, Maurizio Rolli, Luigi Giannatempo and Sandro Santa as teachers. He later moved to Groningen, Netherlands, where he studied with Cătălin Rotaru and began to play with various musicians of the international jazz scene in projects such as Falga or Trio Onirico. He studied with musicians such as John Patitucci, Joe Locke, John Webber, Tineke Postma, Marc Copland, JD Walter, Robin Eubanks. He gave concerts in the Netherlands, Belgium, Serbia, Germany, Switzerland, Lithuania, China and the USA.

Born in Jacksonville, Florida, the American percussionist Owen Hart Jr. He is studying at Jacksonville University and is currently based in Groningen, the Netherlands. In addition to projects with various musicians in Europe and the USA, Owen Hart Jr. has been one of the drum teachers of the jazz department of the Prince Claus Conservatoire in Groningen. He plays with artists such as David Berkman, Michael Moore, Benjamin Herman, EVA and Paul Berner. In 2018 he taught at ACIMS – The Art of Collective Imagination Music School in Turkey.
