Peleș Castle, one of the most visited castles in the country, will host one of the SoNoRo Conac concerts “À la française”, on May 12, from 4:00 PM. The works of French composers Gabriel Fauré, Marin Marais, Camille Saint-Saëns, as well as the compositions of George Enescu and Zoltán Kodaly will come to life in the interpretation of virtuoso musicians Anna-Liisa Bezrodny, violin, Răzvan Popovici, viola, Jan-Erik Gustaffson, cello, and Miruna Nagy, harp. Admission to the concert at Peleș Castle is free and is made on a reservation basis at: rezervari@sonoro.ro or 0741.190.470.

The French influence in our culture has been very great, from art and architecture, to administrative organization methods, but also the contribution of our country to French culture, through intellectuals and artists of Romanian origin, has been important and we are glad that this joint season has managed to emphasize so well this relationship, which has enriched both cultures. In this edition we will carry out a cultural exchange with France, we will have top French artists invited to the Conac concerts, who will perform alongside Romanian or international artists, to whose high level our audience has already become accustomed., declares musician Răzvan Popovici, director of the SoNoRo Conac tour and the SoNoRo Festival.

The construction of the remarkable Peleș Castle materialized according to the wish of Carol I, lasted almost 40 years, and the inauguration in a first architectural form took place in 1883. The first heir to the Romanian throne, Carol II, was born here. For more than 60 years, the castle was a royal residence, state property since 1948, a museum that can be visited from 1953 to 1975 and from 1990 to the present. Now the state manages the operation of the museum and pays the royal family a rent.

Peleș Castle is decorated on the outside in German style and has approximately 160 rooms. These include a theater hall, with a small stage and 60 seats, plus the royal box decorated in the style of Louis IV. The spaces shown to the public impress with their handmade carved wood decoration, collections of stained glass, furniture and weapons from the 15th -19th centuries. The rooms on the tourist circuit have suggestive names for the style of the interior decoration: the Moorish Hall, the Florentine Salon, the Column Hall, the Arms Hall and the Concert Hall, the hall where the chamber music concert on May 12 will take place.

Peleș Castle preserves its original interior decorations and attracts over 340,000 visitors annually through its unique architecture, permanent exhibitions, concerts that restore its royal charm of yesteryear, and the fact that it has witnessed numerous important historical events.

About SoNoRo Mansion

In 2013, the Sonoro Association laid the foundations for a new project – SoNoRo Conacce, which aims, by associating music with emblematic architectural works from Romania, to suggest the need for respect, attention and support for Romania's extraordinary cultural heritage and resources.

SoNoRo Conac started from the idea of giving chamber music its original, intimate space, conducive to cultural dialogue and active listening by a small audience. This project aims to raise public awareness regarding the multitude of rehabilitated heritage buildings – fabulous, spectacular, elegant buildings that need to be reintroduced into the cultural circuit.
SoNoNo Conac is a project initiated by the Sonoro Association, with the support of the main partner BRD – Groupe Société Générale and the Order of Architects of Romania.
