On June 24th, the Sinaia Concours de Elegance takes place, one of the most special events in Eastern Europe dedicated to vintage cars. The event, organized under the High Patronage of HM King Michael I of Romania, benefits from an exceptional setting: the Peleș Royal Domain and Castle for the presentation and parade of the competitors and the Sinaia Casino for the awards ceremony.
The Sinaia Concours de Elegance was first organized by the Royal Romanian Automobile Club (ACRR) more than eight decades ago, in two editions (1934 and 1935). Retromobil Club Romania (RCR) resumed the tradition of organizing the event in partnership with the Sinaia City Hall and the Peleş National Museum. This year, the Sinaia Concours de Elegance was included as a category A event in the calendar of the International Federation of Vintage Automobiles (FIVA) and enjoys, for the first time, the official support of BMW Classic, alongside an already traditional collaboration with BMW Group Romania.
For the 2017 edition, 32 cars are entered in six categories, with representatives from four countries: Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary and Great Britain. Many exceptional examples are entered, such as the 1924 Ego 4/14 model, one of two existing examples worldwide, also featured in the film “The Rest is Silence” by Nae Caranfil. Ţiriac Collection will present one of the few production limousines in the world that has a 16-cylinder engine – a Cadillac Series 90 model. Porsche 356 Cabriolet, Jaguar E Type or Citroën DS 21 Cabriolet Chapron are other spectacular cars entered in the competition.
In total, this year's edition brings together participants from four countries. The UK's representative is Romanian violinist Remus Azoiţei, with a 1971 Renault 12 TL. He trained at the Bucharest Conservatory and received a scholarship to the renowned Juilliard School in New York.
This paved the way for a prestigious career, with concerts in the world's great halls, such as Carnegie Hall in New York, Konzerthaus Berlin, Teatro La Fenice Venice, Auditorio Nacional Madrid or Konzerthaus Vienna.
In 2001, Remus Azoiţei was appointed Professor of Violin at the Royal Academy of Music in London, at that time also being the youngest violin professor in the entire history of the Academy. Remus Azoiţei plays a Niccolo Gagliano violin made in 1753, belonging to the collection of the Royal Academy of Music in London.
Exceptional participation of BMW Classic at the Sinaia Concours de Elegance, one of the most special events in the region dedicated to vintage cars
The international BMW Classic participation means a significant fleet of cars that will also mark a series of special moments in the brand's history. The first generation BMW 7 Series (E23) celebrates 40 years since the model's launch and BMW's return to the luxury sedan segment, the BMW 7 Series 750i (E38) marks 30 years since the first German V12 engine after World War II, and a BMW Z1 model, probably the first model to circulate on the roads of Romania, celebrates 30 years since the relaunch of BMW roadsters.
This year's Sinaia Concours d'Elegance will be the scene of another important moment in the history of the BMW brand – a very special model returns to Romania after participating in the 1940 Brasov Grand Prix, just a few kilometers from Sinaia.
This is the legendary BMW 328 Mille Miglia Roadster, bodied by Touring, one of only three models ever produced and certainly one of the most emblematic models in the brand's history.
The Sinaia Concours d'Elegance is open to the general public free of charge. In addition, alongside the official presentation of the cars at Peleş Castle, enthusiasts can discover more details and legends about the cars in the competition in two guided tours, starting at 10:00 and 14:00, departing from the "La tunuri" Terrace.
Event program:
– 10:00 – 17:00. The cars are present on the Peleş Royal Domain: Peleş Castle, Pelişor Castle, Economat Villa.
– 10:00, 14:00. Guided presentation tours starting from the "La tunuri" Terrace, Vila Economat
– 12:00 – 13:00. Official presentation of the cars, Peles Castle.
– 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM. Vintage car parade and presentation in the city center.
– 19:00 – 20:00. Awards ceremony, Casino Sinaia.
Leaflets with the list of participating cars and their competition numbers, as well as ballots, will be distributed. The public will be able to vote for their favorite model by placing their ballots in the ballot box in front of the “La tunuri” terrace. Each visitor can vote for only one car, by writing the number of their favorite car on the ballot (the numbers are displayed on each car). The “Public Award” will be awarded based on the votes.
