THE 11TH EDITION OF THE "CARMEN SYLVA" NATIONAL COMPETITION WILL NOT BE ORGANIZED THIS YEAR!

NATIONAL COMPETITION CARMEN SYLVANA – 2020

Now in its 10th edition, the goal of the project is to discover talented young people who are not enrolled in a specialized form of education, namely art schools and universities, but for whom art is a passion.

The general objective: promoting talent and passion for beauty, continuing the tradition started more than a century ago by the first Queen of Romania, Elisabeta, and continued by Queen Maria, the patroness of the Society. Artistic Youth  which brought together young Romanian artists at the beginning of their careers and whose works can currently be admired in Pelișor Castle.

The specific objective: consists of setting up a temporary exhibition at Pelișor Castle, in which the works of the winners designated by the specialized jury will be exhibited.

REGULATIONS

The competition is open to talented young people in the country aged between 7-29.

Participants will be grouped into three categories, depending on age:

  • Category I: 7-14 years old;
  • Category II – a: 15 – 21 years;
  • Category III: 22 – 29 years;

The disciplines of the competition are: PAINTING, DRAWING, ENGRAVING and PHOTOGRAPHY.

The duration of the competition is 5 months and will be held as follows:

November 1, 2019 – March 31, 2020: sending, via electronic system, three personal works, scanned or photocopied, together with the fully completed registration form to the e-mail address of the Peleș National Museum: peles.ro@gmail.com;

April 1 – 12, 2020: preselection and judging of works;

April 13, 2020: announcing the contest winners on the official website www.peles.ro;

April 14 -15, 2020: submitting and resolving complaints;

April 16 – 30: sending the winners' works to the headquarters of the Peleș National Museum;

May 1 – 29: organization of the temporary exhibition in the Hall of Honor of Pelișor Castle;

May 30, 2020: opening of the exhibition;

The exhibition will be open to the public until June 28, 2020.

The topic is at the free choice of the participants.

The jury will be made up of specialists in the competition disciplines.

Three winners will be designated in each competition discipline, for each category of participants.

The prize of the CARMEN SYLVA competition consists of promoting the winners by setting up a temporary exhibition, for a period of 30 days, at Pelișor Castle.

To arrange the exhibition, the jury will choose, to be exhibited on the shelves, one work from the three sent by the winners, by postal parcel or courier, to the headquarters of the PeleÈ™ National Museum.

Participation in the contest is free.

A participant can register for multiple disciplines.

Works must not be edited on a computer, with the exception of the PHOTOGRAPHY discipline, where changes in editing programs such as Photoshop are accepted.

Photos must be submitted for entry in JPG format with a resolution of 300 DPI, and if selected by the jury, they will be sent in RAW or PNG format, at the original resolution.

The deadline for registration is March 31, 2020.

The deadline for submitting papers is April 30, 2020.

The five members of the jury will each award a score from 1 to 10 for each author, and the winners will be designated in descending order of the score obtained, with the following specifications:

  • The jury will designate a single competitor who will be awarded the Grand Prize of the competition, the maximum score being 50 points;
  • To be awarded the first prize, the minimum score obtained is 45 points;
  • For the award of the second prize, the minimum score obtained is 40 points;
  • For the award of the third prize, the minimum score obtained is 35 points;

 

After the exhibition closes, the works will be returned by the museum via postal parcel.
