The PeleÈ™ National Museum celebrates the Centennial of the Great Union by opening the temporary exhibition "The Royal Family and the Great Union". Dedicated primarily to King Ferdinand I and Queen Maria, but also to the other members of the Royal Family of Romania, who, with a spirit of sacrifice, shared the hard fate of the Romanians during World War I, the exhibition is intended to be a retelling of the events of the period 1916-1922.
Starting with the Crown Council of August 4, 1916 at Cotroceni Palace, when it was decided that Romania would enter the war on the side of the Entente Powers (France, Great Britain, Russia, Italy, etc.), continuing with the exile of the Royal Family to Iași, which became, for two years, the Capital of Romania, King Ferdinand I and Queen Maria became the central figures around whom the State institutions, politicians, diplomats, and foreign military missions gravitated. They would also be crowned, on October 15, 1922, in Alba Iulia, as sovereigns of Greater Romania, consecrating the fulfillment of the Romanians' most important desire.
The exhibition illustrates, through period documents and photographs, objects of plastic and decorative art, various memorabilia, the epic of the achievement of the Union of all Romanians within the borders of the same kingdom. With the support of the National Archives of Romania, the exhibition can be seen, together, the act of one Bessarabia with Romania, the laws signed by King Ferdinand I for the ratification of the union of Bessarabia, Bukovina and Transylvania with Romania. Also, through the kindness of some private collectors, important photographic documents are exhibited.
The exhibition is open from December 8, 2018 to February 24, 2019, in the temporary exhibition halls of the PeleÈ™ National Museum, located on the ground floor of PeleÈ™ Castle.
Admission is free.
