133 years since inauguration<\/strong><\/p>\n

On Wednesday, October 5, 2016, visitors will have free access to the castle between 11:15 AM and 4:15 PM (last entry).<\/p>\n

On the afternoon of October 7, 1883, the inauguration ceremony of the castle, the seat of the "new dynasty", began with a religious service and the blessing of water, attended by King Carol I and Queen Elisabeth and more than 50 guests from all the state bodies, part of a battalion of hunters and a large audience from Sinaia and Bucharest. Foreign guests, diplomats and editors of prestigious newspapers had arrived at Sinaia station by the Orient Express. The national anthem was sung and the Tricolor, the national flag, was raised on the great tower of the Castle, which was greeted by three cannon salutes.<\/p>\n

General Cre\u0163ieanu, head of the Military House, read the following document:
\n"I, Carol I, King, with Elizabeth, Queen, after a great effort
\ntirelessly for two years, in the fight against unstable terrain,
\ncrossed by springs, I managed to place at the foot of
\nBucegi, the foundation of this building, in the year of salvation 1875,
\nand the 9th of our reign. The construction stopped during
\nthe war for the independence of Romania (1877 \u2013 1878).
\nWe entered this house of ours in the year of salvation 1883,
\nand of our 17th reign; we gave it the name: Castle
\n"Pele\u015f."<\/p>\n

The Metropolitan sprinkled the corridors and all the rooms with holy water and a festive meal with selected Romanian dishes and wines followed. King Carol I made a toast, as did the President of the Senate D. Ghica and the President of the Assembly of Deputies CA Rosetti.<\/p>\n

The poet Vasile Alecsandri raised a glass according to the old custom, saying:
\n"In the times of our ancestors, when Lords and great boyars entered new homes, the people gathered to wish them with these words:
\n"How many bricks and beams,
\nSo many honors and victories!
\nHow much sand in these buildings
\nSo much happiness and brilliance"
\n"We address this ancestral wish to your majesties today on behalf of the Romanian people. May God help you to build other monuments in the country, just as glorious, just as beautiful as this beautiful and enchanting Palace like Pele\u015f's fairy tales."<\/p>\n

After the guests visited Pele\u0219 Castle, all participants in the inauguration were invited to tea in the music room where Queen Elisabeth sang several opera arias and two Romanian songs accompanied by the piano.<\/p>\n

The castle had 160 rooms and very modern facilities for the era in which it was built: central heating, running water in the bathrooms and sewage; in 1884 the electrical network was installed, and the castle had its own generator; in 1897 the micro hydroelectric power plant was built, the same one that still operates
