St\u00f6hr avait travaill\u00e9 pendant un certain temps au ch\u00e2teau de Sigmaringen pour Charles Ier, apr\u00e8s avoir \u00e9t\u00e9 recommand\u00e9 par le roi (plus tard empereur) Guillaume Ier de Prusse. Le jeune St\u00f6hr avait dirig\u00e9 les travaux de menuiserie dans son ch\u00e2teau de Babelsberg en Allemagne.<\/div><br \/><div>En Roumanie, il a travaill\u00e9 au service du roi Carol Ier pendant 30 ans, \u00e0 la fois pour le Palais Royal de Bucarest et, surtout, pour sa r\u00e9sidence d&#039;\u00e9t\u00e9, le ch\u00e2teau de Pele\u015f, o\u00f9 il a occup\u00e9 le poste de directeur des travaux de construction et de planification.<\/div><br \/><div>L&#039;id\u00e9al artistique du sculpteur \u00e9tait la cr\u00e9ation de la Renaissance allemande, les traits de ce style se retrouvant dans toutes ses \u0153uvres d&#039;\u00e9b\u00e9nisterie. Malheureusement, de nombreux meubles, boiseries, portes et portails ont disparu du Palais Royal lors de l&#039;incendie de 1926.<\/div><br \/><div>Dans le ch\u00e2teau de Pele\u015f sont conserv\u00e9s des meubles d&#039;une composition artistique exquise, ainsi que le travail d&#039;un grand savoir-faire et d&#039;une grande minutie, la porte en bois sculpt\u00e9 de l&#039;entr\u00e9e principale.<\/div><br \/><div>Hautement personnalis\u00e9s, les meubles St\u00f6hr se caract\u00e9risent par une abondance ornementale. La sculpture parfaite et la science de l&#039;utilisation de l&#039;asym\u00e9trie volum\u00e9trique, avec des hauts-reliefs et des rondes-bosses, conf\u00e8rent aux pi\u00e8ces de style Renaissance allemande une touche essentiellement baroque.<\/div><br \/><div>Pour ses services fid\u00e8les et son talent, le sculpteur et architecte Martin St\u00f6hr a re\u00e7u plusieurs ordres et m\u00e9dailles : Carol Ier lui a d\u00e9cern\u00e9 l&#039;Ordre de l&#039;\u00c9toile de Roumanie en tant que chevalier, l&#039;Ordre de la Couronne en tant qu&#039;officier et le prince Karl Anton de Hohenzollern lui a d\u00e9cern\u00e9 la m\u00e9daille d&#039;or.
