N\u0103scut la Faenza, la 21 februarie 1868, Antonio Argnani \u00ee\u015fi descoper\u0103 \u00eenc\u0103 din copil\u0103ria petrecut\u0103 \u00eentr-un mediu artistic, pasiunea pentru desen. Personalitate plurivalent\u0103, tat\u0103l s\u0103u, Federico Argnani (1822 \u2013 1905), ceramist \u015fi litograf, a predat desenul la \u015ecoala Tehnic\u0103 Faentin\u0103 \u015fi a condus Pinacoteca din Faenza. \u00cen anul 1889, a publicat o ampl\u0103 istorie a ceramicii locale de la origini p\u00e2n\u0103 \u00een secolul al XVI-lea. Mai mult ca oricare alt ora\u015f italian, Napoli, cu cerurile sale pastelate reflectate \u00een apele golfului, cu silueta fantomatic\u0103 a Vezuviului, cu palatele, bisericile \u015fi cartierele sale vechi, pline de culoare, \u00eei subjug\u0103 imagina\u0163ia artistic\u0103 pentru aproape un deceniu. \u00centre 1882 \u2013 1891, se stabile\u015fte aici \u015fi \u00ee\u015fi perfec\u0163ioneaz\u0103 printr-o munc\u0103 febril\u0103 talentul \u00eenn\u0103scut de desenator. Talentul s\u0103u se reveleaz\u0103 \u00eens\u0103 mai ales \u00een portretele feminine, c\u00e2\u015ftig\u00e2ndu-\u015fi apelativul de ,,Pictor al gra\u0163iei feminine\u201d. Argnani \u015ftie s\u0103 valorifice femeia, \u00eenv\u0103luind-o prin tu\u015fe delicate \u00eentr-o aur\u0103 misterioas\u0103, fluid\u0103, de voaluri transparente, p\u0103l\u0103rii cu pana\u015f, lujeri florali \u015fi bijuterii cuceritoare. Senzuale, dar inaccesibile, \u00een cromatic\u0103 pastelat\u0103, doamnele lui Argnani sur\u00e2d discret privitorului, \u00een timp ce portretele sale masculine degaj\u0103 expresivitate \u015fi elegan\u0163\u0103. Argnani \u00ee\u015fi studiaz\u0103 cu aten\u0163ie modelele \u015fi \u015ftie s\u0103 le surprind\u0103 caracterul din micile detalii, dintr-un simplu gest al m\u00e2inii, dar mai ales din privire. Ochii, ca oglind\u0103 a sufletului, sunt cei asupra c\u0103rora \u00ee\u015fi fixeaz\u0103 \u00eentreaga aten\u0163ie. Ei devin punctul central al lucr\u0103rii: \u00een jurul ochilor, asemena unei spirale \u00een mi\u015fcare, se dezvolt\u0103 \u00eentreaga compozi\u0163ie.<\/p>\n<p>Lumea pestri\u0163\u0103 a Parisului, cu cartierele sale cosmopolite, Montparnasse \u015fi Montmartre, veritabili stupi umani, \u00eel primesc cu bra\u0163ele deschise. Boema ora\u015fului, unde coexistau \u00eentr-o vecin\u0103tate complice Universit\u0103\u0163i \u015fi ateliere de arti\u015fti cu cabaretele \u015fi lupanarele anilor nebuni de la \u00eenceputul secolului al XX-lea, \u00eel fascineaz\u0103 f\u0103r\u0103 s\u0103-l transforme \u00eentr-un artist al frivolit\u0103\u0163ii. \u00cen paralel, Argnani c\u0103l\u0103tore\u015fte la Londra \u015fi New York, unde realizeaz\u0103 un num\u0103r impresionant de portrete. \u00cen anul 1927, o parte a operelor sale figureaz\u0103 la Galeria Maurice Chalom, \u00een cadrul unei expozi\u0163ii personale.<\/p>\n<p>Argnani r\u0103m\u00e2ne fidel tehnicii pastelului p\u00e2n\u0103 la cap\u0103t. El nu \u00een\u0163elege noile tendin\u0163e ale picturii: nudurile compatriotului s\u0103u, Modigliani, artistul blestemat, care cuceresc treptat Ora\u015ful luminilor, i se par extravagante, Cubismul, de ne\u00een\u0163eles, iar Futurismul lui Marinetti \u015fi Boccioni, reac\u0163ionar. Argnani se refugiaz\u0103 \u00een desen cu pasiunea omului convins c\u0103 arta nu poate func\u0163iona dincolo de limitele decen\u0163ei \u015fi bunului \u2013 gust.<\/p>\n<p>\u00cen 1930, dup\u0103 anii boemi ai Parisului, Argnani se stabile\u015fte \u00een vila sa din ora\u015ful Antibes, construit\u0103 \u00een peisajul m\u0103re\u0163 al Alpilor Maritimi din sud-estul Fran\u0163ei, unde se dedic\u0103 familiei. Nevoia de refugiu \u015fi firea sa conservatoare \u00eel \u00eendep\u0103rteaz\u0103 pentru totdeauna de agita\u0163ia marilor ora\u015fe. Fiii s\u0103i, Eugenio \u015fi Federico \u00eei mo\u015ftenesc talentul artistic, primul ca gravor \u015fi istoric de art\u0103, cel\u0103lalt, ca ebenist. Se stinge din via\u0163\u0103 \u00een anul 1947, dup\u0103 tribula\u0163iile din anii r\u0103zboiului. Las\u0103 \u00een urma sa mii de portrete \u015fi odat\u0103 cu ele, o lume apus\u0103, dar care a cunoscut pe deplin luxul \u015fi elegan\u0163a din Belle \u00c9poque.<\/p>\n<p>Perioada parizian\u0103 a crea\u0163iei sale \u00eei prilejuie\u015fte \u00eent\u00e2lnirea cu familia regal\u0103 \u015fi princiar\u0103 rom\u00e2n\u0103, care \u00eei comand\u0103 portrete la \u00eenceputul secolului trecut, \u00een jurul anilor 1910 \u2013 1912. Regele Carol \u015fi regina Elisabeta, principesa Maria \u015fi principele Ferdinand, copiii celor doi, principii Carol \u015fi Nicolae, principesele Elisabeta, Mignon \u015fi Ileana devin, prin m\u00e2na artistului, modele pline de elegan\u0163\u0103 \u015fi ging\u0103\u015fie. Majoritatea acestor portrete figureaz\u0103 \u00een castelul Peli\u015for, re\u015fedin\u0163a privat\u0103 a cuplului Ferdinand \u2013 Maria \u015fi fac parte din patrimoniul Muzeului Na\u0163ional Pele\u015f.<\/p>\n<p>Din portretul realizat de Argnani, mo\u015ftenitorul tronului Rom\u00e2niei, Ferdinand de Hohenzollern \u2013 Sigmaringen, \u00een uniform\u0103 militar\u0103, cu chipiu \u015fi decora\u0163ie pe piept, ne scruteaz\u0103 \u015fi azi cu privirea. \u00cen stilul s\u0103u binecunoscut, artistul schi\u0163eaz\u0103 recuzita din c\u00e2teva tr\u0103s\u0103turi de penel, ordinul, imposibil de recunoscut, este redus la o simpl\u0103 panglic\u0103. Figura personajului, \u00een schimb, \u00eel absoarbe cu totul: fiecare detaliu conteaz\u0103 \u00een economia compozi\u0163iei. Artistul \u00ee\u015fi plaseaz\u0103 modelul deasupra perspectivei cu inten\u0163ia de a-i sugera distinc\u0163ia, pozi\u0163ia pe scara social\u0103 \u015fi intelectualitatea, dar \u015fi timiditatea, tendin\u0163a spre recluziune \u015fi rezerva autoimpus\u0103.
